Interview with Iron Core Banned

With NEMO Editor Scott Flax

We’re connecting long distance (via internet e-mail) with Todd Paul from Iron Core Banned.  I’ve known Todd for a few years from his visits to The Music Store, where I work.  He’s always been a good patron with a great heart, so, when he told me he was working on a new band, I was excited to hear about it.  Now that they’re up and running, we’ve had a chance to get some more information.

SF: Todd, who is Iron Core?
TP: Todd Paul (drums), Jim Enea (vocals/guitar), Smokin’ Tony Z (lead guitar) and Justin Soison (bass).  We are a kick ass original hard rock band that plays from the heart. 4 veterans forged from

Wailin’ away and being himself!

the core of the earth; we are made of iron. Our live show has been described as electrifying and alive. We love getting out there and playin’ for the fans and feeding off their energy. Each one of us has brought many influences and personal style to the music.

SF: What would you call Iron Core’s sound?
TP: We have unique sound that can only be described as sounding like the Iron Core banned, a melting pot of blues, rock and heavy metal.

SF: When did Iron Core form, and what were the reasons and influences for its inception?
TP: The band was reestablished as iron core in the beginning of 2011. Creative minds gravitating together for the love of playing in a band and all the rewards that come with it. As most musicians know, sometime there is a connection between players and you can just feel what the other is feeling, and we have that.

SF: Who were your greatest musical influences?
TP: The first time, I think I was around ten my brother brought home Kiss alive on vinyl, when I listened to that, I was amazed and inspired by the massive drum kit and powerful sound, and wanted to do the same. Others were Eric Singer Eric Carr Chad Smith, Troy Luccketta, Blas Elias and the list goes on.

JE: my vocal influences are Dio, Bruce Dickenson, Geddy lee and the list could go on as far back as Billy Joel and Daryl Hall. And for guitar it was Alex Lifeson, all Iron Maiden guitarists and of course Randy Rhodes.
TZ: Duane Allman was my first, Albert Collins, Johnny Winters, Angus Young, Ace, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray, and Buddy Guy, and of course me myself and I. even though I am influenced by all these great guitar players I still strive to be original.
